The stock YFZ front suspension uses very short shocks. Stock shock conversions are only dual rate, tripple rate springs will not fit!
- The original Long Travel Laeger a-arm, required a 17.5 inch shock.
- The current Long Travel Laeger a-arm uses a 18.5 inch shock.
So why did they change?? To be able to accomidate the Elka quad rate long shock.
The 17.5 inch shock from Elka is a triple rate, standard travel shock. The 18.5 inch shock from Elka is a quad rate long travel shock. The difference in price between these two shocks is substantial not only in function, but in price as well:
Elka Triple Rate, Remote Reservoir, Preload, Compression & Rebound adjustable: $1150.00
Elka Quadruple Rate, Remote Reservoir, Preload, Compression & Rebound adjustable: $1465.00
Most Long Travel a-arms from Laeger use at least a 19" shock! If you are using shocks from TCS/RaceTech or Axis, there would be no difference in price or spring rate. You would never know if someone sold you the old style, or new style Laeger a-arm. unless you asked what legnth shocks were being used! But, with Elka, you would know right away not only by the price, but the different spring rate would be a dead give away, when buying the long travel kit.
Be carefull when shoping. Make sure your comparing apples to apples. Not apples to oranges when your looking at long travel kits.

This is the kit that uses the older 17.5" shock.
Laeger/Elka LT Package $1314 ($1578 Retail)
- Laeger’s Long Travel A-arms in your choice of 6 colors +2 width
- Elka triple rate shocks w/o reservoirs
- Streamline brake lines and clamps
Add:
Streamline brake line clamps $30
Compression adjustable reservoirs $387
Total $1722 ($2038 Retail)
How does this compare to the 18.5" shock packages?
- Triple rate standard travel vs. quad rate long travel Elka shocks
- 1" less shock travel
- $202 Less than the quad rate Elka LT package
- $67 Less than the TCS package
Price wise, it only makes a noticable difference if you use Elka shocks! Would it be worth $202 more for the quad rate shock and the extra inch of shock travel? If you feel you have to have the Elka shocks, that's a decision you'll have to make.
With TCS and Axis, you don't have to make that decision, they are the same price either way. So it's in your best interest to get the 18.5" a-arm, rather than the 17.5" a-arm. Make sure you know which one your getting!!!
TCS is without a doubt the best value here. For just a few dollars more, you'll get the 18.5" a-arms and the extra inch of shock travel that youll have to pay $202 more for if you pick the Elka shock package! It makes no sense to spend an extra $202 for one additional spring.
